Classic Consoles
The American Story
The history of Classic Consoles is one that defines the “All-American Story of Success”. Originating out of a garage in Tallahassee, FL once introduced to the public, the workmanship and hand-stitched quality of Classic Consoles soon gained the company the lion’s share of the market when it came to aftermarket consoles and drink holders. In addition to the lion’s share of the market, Classic Consoles has also built a reputation of professionalism and quality in the industry with over 10 years of distributor relations to support that reputation. 100% made in the U.S.A., Classic Consoles is always looking for new opportunities and needs to fill for all classic muscle and sports car enthusiasts.
Beginning in 1997, Jeff Will, future Founder and President, had just installed new carpet in his 1965 Mustang Fastback. During a Mustang club cruise he accidentally spilled his coffee onto his newly installed carpet. It was then he realized the need for some type of drink holder. After quickly finding that no cup holder was present, and having a history in upholstery both as a parachute rigger in the military and from owning his own upholstery business, he soon began to combine his upholstery skill with his carpentry ability, culminating in a console prototype that fit perfectly in his 1965 Mustang complete with matching automotive grade vinyl, . . and so began the first “Humphugger™” console.
Jeff then took his Mustang with his custom console to the local club and left with 12 sales. Seeing the opportunity at hand, he soon turned his personal project into an established business and quickly began acquiring distributorship with well-established companies that saw the opportunity as well to get on board early with a good thing. He later moved the business from Tallahassee, FL to the Industrial Park in Cairo, GA. As the company continued to grow, Classic Consoles expanded it’s product lines to meet demand for new products for various other classic vehicles. To compliment the “Humphugger™” sales the “Saddle™” console, “Cruiser™” console, “Wingrider™” console, “Holdster™” armrest and “Plug & Chug™” drink holders quickly became popular additions.
The Classic Consoles design team was intent on creating a series of products that provided not only functionality (drink holders and armrests) but excellent looks for the classic car interiors. Products were then created fully upholstered in matching automotive grade interior vinyl to blend with the original colors. In addition, the staff at Classic Consoles also understood that our customers do not want to permanently alter their classic car interior. With this thought in mind our design team created a console design that could be installed and uninstalled in seconds with no permanent alteration needed. This step proved to be significant in that it allows the Humphugger™ , Saddle™, Cruiser™, and Wingrider™ consoles as well as the Plug & Chug™ drink holders to be used and enjoyed while cruising to the show. . .then removed in seconds for that original look! . . . and reinstalled in seconds for the cruise home.
From the beginning our mission at Classic Consoles was to create a high quality product line centered around the classic muscle and sports cars of the 1960s and '70s. As of 2008, Classic Consoles has sold over 75,000 consoles and drink holders and is still continuing to grow with product years ranging from 1950 to 2004. Every year since it’s conception, Classic Consoles has outperformed the prior year’s sales data creating consistent banner years for the past 10 years of operation.
Among the plethora of customers, Classic Consoles has produced consoles for the “Los Lonely Boys”, and the President of the Advisory Board of the Associated Press. In addition, Classic Consoles is honored to say that our company also donated a WingRider console to Sgt. McLaughlin following Sept. 11 th to honor his efforts during the terrorist attack of 9-11 on the World Trade Center, which collapsed the twin towers in NYC.
As of 2008, our product line has also doubled in size as we have begun aggressively marketing new options, improved design changes, and new vehicles that our products fit. If you possess a classic, we look forward to providing you with the comfort of a padded armrest or a place to eliminate the frustration of a spilled drink.
